The Freedom Riders
The Freedom Riders were a group of civil rights activists who, in 1961, challenged the segregation laws in the southern United States. They were a diverse group of black and white activists who rode interstate buses into the segregated Southern states to test the enforcement of the Supreme Court rulings that declared segregated public buses unconstitutional, specifically the 1946 Morgan v. Virginia decision and the 1960 Boynton v. Virginia decision.
